Justice Is Blind

Secretly, I breathed a sigh of relief Saturday after my fellow Wine Spectator taster-editors and I concluded a blind tasting in front of 1,200 of our closest friends at the New York Wine Experience. I wiped my brow because no one put us on the spot and demanded we identify the wines in the tasting. Read more

Revised Rules in Oregon

Oregon has loosened up its regulations for varietal labels on wine, but before you get alarmed, it all makes perfect sense. After tasting through more than a dozen leading Oregon wineries' 2006 Pinot Noirs last week, including some of the best in the state, I predict consumers will love them. The producers are of two minds. They know the wines will please many wine drinkers, but they regret the high alcohols inherent in the vintage. Read more
