Peter M.F. Sichel - 1989
A fourth-generation winegrower and merchant, Peter M.F. Sichel, 83, is a member of one of Germany’s most important wine families. After World War II, which Sichel spent in the U.S. Army as an OSS agent, the Sichels recovered their business with a Liebfraumilch named Blue Nun, which found an enthusiastic audience in the United States. Sichel took control of this now crucial market, basing himself in New York, where he developed a high profile, appearing on television, authoring books and lecturing on wine all over the world. He served as chairman of the German Wine Society and as president of the Society of Wine Educators. Photographed in 1989.
