Alfred Fromm - 1982
Alfred Fromm was a member of a prominent German winemaking family that settled in the United States when the Nazis came to power. In 1937, with Europe on the verge of war, he came to California seeking wines to replace those that would soon become scarce from the Old World. At Mont La Salle in the Napa Valley hills, he discovered The Brothers of the Christian Schools, later to be known as The Christian Brothers. Until 1984, Fromm led the Christian Brothers’ distribution organization and was instrumental in bringing fine table wines to the attention of everyday Americans. He died in 1998, at the age of 93.
